New Balance 991 Running Shoes
By James Wikman
Shoes For Running, Walking Or Standing!
Most of us are familiar with the New Balance brand these days. They're most famous for their shoes but this isn't all they do. New Balance actually has a full line of different athletic products for a ton of different sports. The company has been around for over a hundred years now and is still based in Boston. Over the years, they've expanded their brands to include a number of different lines. Some of these subgroups include Dunham, PF Flyers and Warrior. One thing I really like about the New Balance brand is that they are all about the "Everyday Athlete". They don't make their products for the Michael Jordan's and Tiger Woods of the world. They make products for guys like me - Guys that just want to shave a few inches off of that beer gut!
Speaking of beer guts and how to lose them, what better way than running? If you're a runner, chances are you are familiar with the New Balance 990 Series of shoe. One of these shoes, the New Balance 991, is particularly great for running. It uses technology to offer a fantastic fit as well as unprecedented heel support. Keep reading for my take on this popular runner.
New Balance 991's - The Basics
The New Balance 991's have a pretty simple look to them. They are a mid-cut, light weight runner that offers excellent heel support and a great sole. I find that mid-cuts are the only way to go if you're into jogging or even intense walking. Low cuts don't give you the necessary support and high cuts just look goofy! If you're looking for a shoe that's quick and has a strong non-slip bottom, look no further than these bad boys. I've used them on a ton of different terrains without issue. Now they're not technically an all-terrain shoe, so you shouldn't be hitting any serious trails with these. They will hold up on moderate dirt though. To get the most out of the 991's, you probably want to spend most of your time on the pavement.
New Balance 991's - The Technology
As I mentioned off the top, New Balance is all about exploring different technologies to improve their shoes. In the 991, you'll find two wonderful features unique to New Balance running shoes. The first cool feature is known as "Lightning Dry". This is great for people who run in the rain or maybe along the ocean side somewhere. Nothing is worse than running in soggy shoes so New Balance used a quick drying natural material when they put together these shoes.
The second bit of technology that New Balance uses in this shoe is what they like to call a "Stability Web". This feature provides a lot of extra support for the ankle and lower foot. This is an important part of preventing ankle sprains.
New Balance 991's - The Reviews
Scouring over a few Internet reviews of this shoe, I learned quite a few things. This is, in fact, a good way to review any running or walking shoe that you're considering. Check out a few sites, read a few reviews and you'll soon find the shoe that is right for your lifestyle. You may also want to consider buying the product online as there are a lot of deals to be had out there.
Anyway... The word on the street is that these are a great pair of shoes. They're particularly suited for paved roads but hold up OK on light trails as well. Some folks say they even use see shoes while working at trade shows. If you've ever worked a trade show or exhibition before, you know how important a good pair of shoes is. Standing all day can really affect your body. The pain isn't restricted to just your feet either. It climbs up through your legs and even into your back. A good pair of walking shoes by Mephisto or New Balance can alleviate some of this pain. All of NB's products are also made in USA. No sweat shop labour here my Friends.
