New Balance 587 Running Shoes

When you think of running shoes, what company comes to mind? If you're anything like me, it's probably New Balance. This is really impressive when you consider the fact that New Balance doesn't really do a lot of advertising. Look at a corporation like Nike. They spend literally millions of dollars to make sure that you see that little check mark everywhere. They also pay out handsome funds of money to a bunch of different athletes as long as they promise to sport Nike sports apparel. So why is it then that the first running shoe brand to come into our heads is New Balance. The answer is simple. They make fantastic shoes. Word of mouth and online reviews are worth way more than even the biggest marketing budget. The shoe that we'll be looking at today is the New Balance 587 running shoe.

The first thing you'll notice about this shoe is that it looks tough!  It goes beyond just looks as well.  The 587's are actually designed for a specific type of runner.  If you're unfamiliar with types of runners, here's a quick overview.  There are basically two types of runners - heavy and light.  Light runners don't stomp the ground as they jog.  If you see a real light jogger, it may even look like they are walking on air.  Heavy runners, on the other hand, really put a lot into their stride.  Picture a giant saying "Fee Fi Fo Fum" and you'll have pretty good idea of what a heavy runner is.  The New Balance 587 is designed for the latter type of runner here.  If you think you fit this heavy footed profile, chances are these shoes will work for you.

The New Balance 587 - Technology And Innovations

New Balance is known for their innovation and technology.  I think the fact that they don't really spend a lot of money on advertising allows them the opportunity to do a bit more R&D.  In the end, this is great for runners, walkers and sports fans everywhere.  The 587 has a number of really cool features.  The first one worth mentioning is the graphite ROLLBAR.  This device offers excellent ankle support and even helps to prevent shin splints.  This shoe also has New Balance's patented ABZORB technology.  This feature is found in a number of different NB shoes and basically helps to support the heel forefoot with a shock absorption of sorts.  The ENCAP mid sole also serves as a means of support and comfort.  This is great for heavy runners as they tend to need an extra bit of cushion under their feet.  The final feature that I'll mention is the synthetic mesh upper.  While this isn't really new in the world of runners, it's still a great idea.  This mesh allows the shoe to breathe, resulting in a cool, comfortable run.

The New Balance 587's - Are They The Best Running Shoe Available?

That's a tough question to answer.  At the end of the day, everyone's foot is different and everyone has slightly different ideas of what exactly a good shoe is.  I can say, though, that the New Balance 587 women's and men's shoes are wonderful for runners with a heavy stride.  Don't get the wrong idea here.  While they are tough and strong, these shoes are also surprisingly light!  Many users commented that they actually forgot they were wearing shoes after a few minutes of running with these puppies.  They also seem to be good runners for people with flat feet.  This could be related to the whole heavy stride thing - I'm not quite sure...  Another cool thing about all New Balance products is that they are made in the U.S.A.  That's right - no outsourcing here folks.

The one complaint that I often hear about the 587's is that they are ugly.  Looking at the pictures on Amazon.com, it's tough to disagree with this!  I think most runners don't really care about this though.  A good running shoe should be about function - not aesthetics.  Buy a shoe that works for you.  Some people are actually proud of the fact that their 587's are ugly.  Go figure!
