How Much Does Teeth Whitening Cost?

By

Teeth whitening is becoming more and more popular all the time.  This is for several reasons in my opinion.  The first one is that people want to look more beautiful.  This is basically due to the fact that all men and women are constantly exposed to celebrities who have great white teeth.  Now whether or not you think this affects you, chances are it does!  It may be on a sub-conscious level but nonetheless - you want white teeth.  There is also the confidence aspect to consider.  If your teeth are stained, there is a good chance that you're not a very confident person.  Most people with brown or yellow teeth aren't really comfortable speaking in front of people.  This can affect both your social and work life in very negative ways.

Now luckily for all of us, there are quite a few teeth whitening options available to us. In this article, we'll look at the various costs associated with these different whitening methods. Now do keep in mind that the prices outlined below are really for information only. They'll be close but probably not spot on. If you're interested in buying any of these products, I highly recommend looking around. There are often good deals to be had on various Internet sites. These sites also have reviews of the products so you can get more than one opinion before making a choice.

Now, the cheapest and easiest way to get brighter teeth is to switch toothpastes.  A regular toothpaste is great at keeping your teeth healthy, but it doesn't necessarily have any whitening benefits.  Do yourself a favor and switch to a whitening toothpaste.  These products are usually just a couple dollars more than a regular paste.  One of the best ones on the market is the Crest Toothpaste with peroxide and baking soda.  For a long time, there was never peroxide in toothpaste.  Crest has changed this trend with their newest paste.  The cost of this product is about $4.00.  You shouldn't expect miracles from a product so cheap though.  It can do a pretty decent job of removing surface stains but anything more serious will probably need to be removed by another method.

If you're willing to spend a bit more money, I'd recommend going with a home whitening kit of some kind.  They are way more effective than a toothpaste and aren't really that expensive.  The most popular products on the market are made by Crest.  They're known as the Whitestrips and most drug stores carry them.  These strips are essentially pieces of tape that have a bit of peroxide gel on one side.  You stick them onto your teeth and the gel sinks into the surface of the tooth, essentially bleaching it.  There are four different types of whitestrips available.  The Classic ones are the most popular and cost $25.00.  The strips are applied to your teeth twice a day for 14 days.  Most people will start seeing results at day 5.  If you can't wait that long, you may want to consider the Premium Whitestrips.  Costing $35.00, these work the same way as the basic ones but they only need a total of 7 days to take full effect.  You'll also start seeing whiter teeth after just 3 days.  The next step up are the Pro Effects white strips.  This product promises "in office" results, but I have my doubts here.  If you want to give them a go, you'll need to fork over $40.00.  One of the newer products in the Crest whitening arsenal is the "Advanced Seal".  This item, unlike the strip products discussed above, actually forms to your teeth.  They cost about $50.00 but the effect is guaranteed to last for an entire year!

If money is no object and you don't care how much teeth whitening costs, you should be looking at an in office treatment.  These procedures are done by dentists or teeth whitening technicians.  The results are far better than any toothpaste or home kit can provide.  This is due to a couple reasons.  First off, a professional is doing it!  There is no way you can replicate the job of an individual trained to make teeth white.  They also use a higher concentration of peroxide in their gel.  This, naturally, makes teeth whiter and brighter than the less expensive options.  One of the most popular in-office treatments is the Brite Smile one.  With this system, the teeth whitening cost is about $600.

Do you have experience with any of the above methods?  Let me know!
