There has been a lot in the news in recent years about detoxing the body. The coverage has been remarkably divided too. Some doctors think that it is a viable, even necessary, part of living. Others, though, are quick to point out how unnatural and dangerous detox programs are - even going as far to say that they are eating disorders. In this article, I'll try to be as unbiased as I can. Please keep in mind that if you want to try out one of these detox diets, you're best to a bit of research first. There is a ton of information online that goes over different detox kits and plans for all types of individuals. Make sure you check out a few sites though. A lot of the popular detox sites on the Internet are just out to get your money.
Why Should We Detox The Body?
What are the benefits of detoxing the body? Obviously there is something that one gets out of this generally unpleasant experience. Well, there are a few reasons why one should consider looking into this practice. According to most sources, a proper detox will have many positive effects on our bodies and our minds. Central to all the detox diets out there is the belief that we take a whole bunch of toxins into our bodies everyday. It's really quite difficult to argue this point if you think about it. Between the junk food, the tainted water and the smoggy air, the human body is constantly being fed poison and toxins. Detoxing the human body is process of ridding yourself of all these poisons. If done properly, you should feel more alive. Your body won't ache as much and your thoughts will be clearer. You'll also experience a sort of peacefulness that comes with being pure. Detoxing the body for weight loss is another common motive for undertaking one of these diets.
When Should We Detox Our Bodies?
Generally speaking, most people that practice these methods do so about once a year. Apparently that is enough to rid your bodies of the poisons and toxins that are causing you pain. Anyone that knows what they're talking about, though, will be quick to point out that you can't just detox your body once a year and live like a slob the rest of the time. Any success that you'll see from one of these programs is also dependent on you eating healthy year round.
How Should We Be Detoxing The Body?
Well, this is the million dollar question. Have a quick look around on the Internet and you'll see that there is COUNTLESS ways to detox your body. Coincidentally enough, most people are looking to sell you some kind of an E-book as well :) I find some of the best places to find legit information are health sites. I'll include links to a few at the bottom of this article. For the sake of being complete though, let's consider a few common detox diets.
One very basic cleansing plan involves detoxing the body with better eating. With this, you simply cut out ALL of the crap from your diet. This means - No Caffeine, No Saturated Fats, No Alcohol, No Sugar and definitely No Cigarettes. The idea here is that you are going back to a simpler time when none of these thing were even available. Depending on the specific diet that your on, some folks will even make sure that there isn't pesticides on their fruit and vegetables.
Another common method of detoxing the body involves drinking a ton of water everyday. The amount varies, depending on the specific diet, but it's generally between 8 and 10 glasses a day. You're allowed to replace the water with decaffeinated tea but no sugar or milk is allowed in it. Lemon is also OK. In fact, there was a time when lemon detox mixes were all the rage in this industry.
The last method involves using herbs for detoxing the body. This is a very Asian way of doing things. I'm not too familiar with these methods but it basically involves herbs...
