Automatic Cat Litter Boxes - A Review Of The LitterMaid LM900 Mega Self-Cleaning Litter Box
70"What's The Worst Part About Owning A Cat?"
If you asked 10 cat owners this question, chances are that 9 of them would respond with a similar answer about having to clean up the litter box. Sure, some of them might respond that spraying the sofa or fighting with the dog is the worst part. These problems are usually temporary, though, and can be taken care of with a bit of work. Cleaning litter boxes doesn't go away though. This is something you'll have to deal with for as long as you have your cat. The worst is when your kitty manages to kick some feces out of it's box as it's leaving! Even if your cat is very clean, like many of them are, the waste still finds a way to build up rather quickly. This is particularly evident if you forget to empty it for a couple of days.
Well, to address this issue, Littermaid has come up with an automatic cat litter box. This thing does all the dirty work for you. If you're not familiar with what these things look like or how they operate, here's a quick overview. This product looks much like a regular litter box. It's rectangular and sits a couple of inches off the ground. Unlike a regular litter box though, this automatic one is armed with a few key components. The first thing you'll notice is a sensor. This sensor detects when your cat enters the box. At this point, an alarm of sorts is tripped and a 10 minute timer starts. You'll also notice a rake on one side of the box. This is adjacent to a separate container. Here's how the whole operation goes down. Once the 10 minute timer expires, the rake makes it's way across the surface of the kitty litter. It pushes it into the small container at the end of the tray. This container then seals itself in order to keep the nasty odors out.
3 Reasons To Buy A Littermaid LM900 Self Cleaning Litter Box
Now, the cost of this automatic cat litter box is about $70. Is it worth it? Well, it depends on just how much you hate emptying your cat's box the old fashioned way! Here are three things I really like about the Littermaid Self Cleaning Box.
First off, it's more hygienic than a regular box. Keep in mind, however, that this is because I'm one of those people that consistently leave things until the last minute. The automatic box does everything I hate doing. The only part of the process I'm responsible for is replacing the lining inside the storage container once it's full. For the stingy folks out there, you'll be pleased to note that these liners can actually be cleaned and reused.
These products are also just plain entertaining! You probably won't be throwing out your big screen TV anytime soon, but automatic cat litter boxes are pretty cool nonetheless. This is true for both pet and owner as well. My cat, Mr. Bubbles, actually hangs around the unit after finishing his business - just to watch the rake do it's thing! And of course, for guests and friends, this is also quite entertaining.
Of course, the main reason why one would look into getting a self cleaning litter box revolves around being lazy. These things are super low maintenance and that's the primary motive for buying one. No more scooping, no more cat tracking. All is good in the world. The only thing you have to do is empty the container of waste when it gets full. Even this is pretty straightforward with the Littermaid LM900 cartridges.
